Joey and Rory Feek, known to their music fans as Joey + Rory, received their first-ever Grammy Award nomination for their song “If I Needed You.” Since Joey is suffering from end-stage cancer, the country/bluegrass duo won’t appear at the Grammy Awards on Monday evening.

Joey Feek has tried in vain to get Rory to represent Joey + Rory at the awards show, but he refuses to leave her side.

“I can’t leave her. I won’t,” Rory explained on his blog, This Life I Live. “I have done many foolish things and made lots of mistakes in my life, but this isn’t going to be one of them. Instead, I will be sitting beside her and cheering on Little Big Town, and Blake Shelton and Charles and all the talented folks who are nominated in our category and others. It’s an honor for us to just be a part of that night, it truly is.”

Joey and Rory Feek will instead watch the Grammy Awards–together–at home, where she is in hospice care. Rory’s daughters from a previous relationship–Hopie and Heidi, along with Joey + Rory’s manager–will attend the Grammys on their behalf.

Making it this far has been more than Joey and Rory prayed for, since her condition is so grave. The two prayed months ago that she would live to see the Grammy Awards, the release of their new Joey + Rory album, and the second birthday of their daughter, Indiana.

Indy’s birthday is on Wednesday of next week, and Rory Feek talked of their plans in his blog post.

“Our plan is to put streamers up around Joey’s bed and move Indiana’s high-chair in beside her, so Joey can be part of it,” he explained. “So she can watch our little-one eat her cupcake and rip the wrapping paper off her gifts.”

Rory concluded his post by saying that Joey has grown even more fragile, and while they hold out hope for their plans in the coming days, they know that ultimately God is in control.

“Yes, I have a plan. But mine always gives way to His,” Rory added. “Master plan.”

Will you be cheering on Joey + Rory at the Grammy Awards Monday night?

Joey and Rory Feek would no doubt appreciate your prayers as well.
