Olsen twins Mary-Kate and Ashley grew up on camera, with their first gig on Full House taking them from babies to enterprising pre-teens. And while they won’t be making an appearance on the Netflix reboot Fuller House, John Stamos–who played Uncle Jesse on the show–wants them to know they’ll be missed.
Stamos shared a video recently of himself and the girls vacationing in Hawaii when they were about three years old, and it’s getting passed around the Web this week as fans anxiously await the show’s premiere. In the clip, Stamos sits in the grass as the girls come over to give him hugs and a punch in the forehead; you know, the typical toddler greeting.
While almost the entire original cast is coming back for the reboot, Mary-Kate and Ashley won’t be returning. The news was something of a surprise to fans, many of whom followed the twins’ careers in front of the camera long after the original show ended. The Olsen twins built an empire following their time on Full House, producing a string of straight-to-video hits and their own fashion and accessory lines. In recent years, however, they’ve chosen to stay away from acting, and that’s the reason they won’t be appearing on Fuller House.
“Ashley said, I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17 and I don’t feel comfortable acting. Mary-Kate said, It would have to be me because Ash doesn’t want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us,” said executive producer Bob Boyett.
Despite the Olsen twins’ absence, the show will go on, and there will be at least one reference to the character of Michelle within the reboot; in the trailer, DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy prank call the youngest Tanner while she’s off studying fashion in New York, yelling “You got it, dude!” into the phone.
