Lindsey Vonn suffered a hairline fracture to her left knee on Saturday, during the FIS Ski World Cup event in the tiny country of Andorra. Despite her injury, she is holding out hope she may be able to ski again in Sunday’s competition.
Taking to social media, Lindsey Vonn shared a photo of her wounded knee, with a dog resting on her lap.
“Got caught in the soft snow today and crashed pretty hard. X-rays showed I have a hairline fracture in my left knee and will get an MRI Monday. I will wait and see how I feel tomorrow to decide if I can race. Will keep u updated. Thx for all of the support and well wishes. Means a lot! Also congrats to my teammate @lalalaurenne on 2nd place today!” she captioned the shot.
Lindsey Vonn already has an extensive injury history at age 31. Those injuries include the torn ACL/MCL and fractured tibial plateau she suffered during the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in February 2013.
The U.S. Ski Team released a statement to the media following Lindsey Vonn’s injury earlier on Saturday.
“She was taken off the mountain on a sled by ski patrol for evaluation,” the statement read. “She is presently being evaluated to determine if she sustained any injuries.”
While she is listed for Sunday’s competition, it’s still uncertain if Lindsey Vonn will be up for the pain that will likely be involved–not to mention her risk of further injuring the knee.
