Pat Conroy, author of best-selling books including The Prince of Tides, died on Friday at his home in Beaufort, North Carolina, of pancreatic cancer. He was 70.

According to the BBC, “Pat Conroy was recognized as a leading figure of the 20th Century’s literature of the American South.”
In addition to The Prince of Tides, Pat Conroy authored The Water is Wide. His wife, Cassandra King, used the title in a statement she gave regarding her husband’s passing.
“The water is wide but he has now crossed over,” she said in a statement.
It was only four weeks ago that Pat Conroy received his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. He shared word of his illness with his fans and followers on February 15 via Facebook.
