Duggar family member Amy King–a cousin who has famously been open about disagreeing with some of the Duggars’ beliefs–says she doesn’t really see the Duggar girls unless she goes to their house because Jim Bob and Michelle don’t want her to “influence” them.
“We’ve had a girls night before and have gone out to eat. It’s a rule though that if I want to spend quality time with them I have to come see them. They don’t want me to influence them. So I respect their standards and I don’t fuss about it,” Amy said on Instagram in response to a fan.
Amy says that she used to let it get to her, but over the years she’s learned to step back and respect the family’s wishes.
“It used to really bother me and then I realized that I just live knowing that God gives us grace. I can only be myself and even though we don’t see eye to eye on every little thing we are still family and I do still love them,” Amy said.
Amy recently said in an interview that she and new husband Dillon are moving into a new home in Arkansas owned by her grandmother. While she admitted it needs some work, she said she can’t wait to get to work fixing it up.
“Grandma is going to be landlord! It has huge bay windows, walk-in closets, and a big kitchen. It’s a fixer-upper. It’s an older home, so it definitely needs to be brought up-to-date. It’ll be so fun!”
Amy added that the 2-bedroom home will be a big step up for them since they’ve been living in her apartment.
“Right now, our little apartment doesn’t have a dishwasher or washer/dryer, so this will be such a nice change. Dillon actually moved into my apartment, so we have been living in a super girly, floral-designed home.”
