Actor Charlie Sheen is due to star in a drama set during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Sheen and Whoopi Goldberg will play two of the five people trapped in an elevator at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

The movie called Nine Eleven is Sheen’s first movie project since revealing he is HIV-positive in November. The drama will be directed by Martin Guigui, who also co-wrote the script with Steven Golebiowski, Variety confirmed.

“We are immensely grateful to bring this inspirational story to life. Nine Eleven is a highly emotional journey and it took a dynamic bunch to collectively come together to make this unique film happen,” Guigui said.

“I feel deeply connected to the material and I’m so excited to be working with my dear friend Whoopi Goldberg,” Sheen, 50, said of the movie.

Sheen is a known 9/11 conspiracy theorist who had raised questions about the truth surrounding the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the past.

In a radio interview in 2006, he suggested that the World Trade Center had fallen not because of the impact caused by the airplanes that smashed into the building but because of a “controlled demolition.”

“We’re not the conspiracy theorists on this issue. It seems to me like 19 amateurs with box cutters taking over four commercial airliners and hitting 75 per cent of the targets – that feels like a conspiracy theory,” Charlie Sheen said at the time.

Sheen also spoke about 9/11 at the Neo-Con Agenda, a meeting of neoconservatives who believe in 9/11 conspiracy theories and urge people to join them in seeing the truth.

Luis Guzman, Olga Fonda, and Wood Harris are reportedly joining Charlie Sheen and Whoopi Goldberg in the movie, which began shooting on Monday at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California.
