Candace Cameron Bure took to Instagram last week to tell her fans they were getting “ridiculous” with the religious debates on her social media pages, asking them to take it elsewhere.

The Fuller House star has been the target of quite a bit of backlash recently from Christian groups and fans, who say they don’t like the direction the Netflix show takes in regards to DJ’s wardrobe and behavior. Followers on both sides of the debate have gotten heated, and Bure says she’s tired of all the negativity, especially when it’s in the comment section of a photo that has nothing to do with the show.

“This is getting ridiculous!! STOP having religious debates about me and my family on my comments thread after EVERY single photo I post when they have nothing to do with the picture! If someone makes a rude or negative comment, ignore it! You’re feeding and driving the negativity. This is NOT productive or respectful conversation. And I’m talking to BOTH sides! It’s getting old and downright ugly. This does not represent Jesus well. Let’s encourage one another as well as take the debates to a private page. Please and thank you,” Candace wrote.

Some Christian fans are upset over the fact that DJ kisses a man who is not her husband (the character is widowed), goes out dancing in clubs, and wears revealing clothing, and some are saying they don’t think the show is appropriate for kids, unlike the original series.

“I quit watching the show after the fourth one. There is too much crude humor and half nakedness and body flinging. For somebody who’s supposed to be a Christian is trying to please both worlds—it’s sad it had to come to this. It’s not something today’s kids should watch either,” one commenter wrote.

Candace Cameron Bure doesn’t appear to be letting the negativity affect what she posts, however; the actress recently shared a photo of the kissing scene on Instagram, asking fans to vote whether DJ should end up with Steve or Matt.
