Truecaller plans to bring its caller identification service to WhatsApp and other messaging services to help users fight spam.
Truecaller is one of the leading caller ID and anti-spam tools on the market, helping customers block spam and scam calls and text messages. In many parts of the world, however, WhatsApp and similar services are used more than traditional text messages and phone calls.
The company has informed Reuters that it plans on bringing its service to WhatsApp and other messaging services, giving users a valuable tool in their fight against spam. The feature will especially be useful in markets like India, where messaging spam is a growing problem that legislation has not yet caught up with.
“Over the last two weeks, we have seen a spike in user reports from India about spam calls over WhatsApp,” Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi told the outlet.
The new feature is in beta, and Truecaller plans to release it globally in May.
India is already Truecaller’s biggest market, and this new feature should serve to solidify its position.
