Twitterers Launch Hashtag Wishing Steve Jobs Well
Written by Chris Crum

As reported earlier, Apple CEO Steve Jobs is taking a medical leave of absence from the company. In an email to Apple employees, he said:

"At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company."

Now, the Twitter community appears to be banding together to wish Mr. Jobs well, as a new hashtag is starting to gain momentum: #getwellsteve

Twitter product guy Josh Elman was not the first person to use the hashtag, but as a Twitter team member, his contribution will no doubt help the tag pick up some steam:

Apple has a very large and loyal fan base, and Jobs has many admirers. It will not be surprising if the tag makes it to the trending topics soon. And as Twitter recently pointed out, engagement and influence can greatly affect how the hashtag build momentum. The tag appears to have started with Nortel veteran Adam Jefferson

Jobs has asked COO Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day-to-day operations during his leave of absence. He also said that he and his family would "deeply appreciate" respect of their privacy.
