So far, the Sony-versus-the-PS3-Hackers war has been largely fought to a stalemate.  True, Sony has perhaps the bigger victory with the GeoHot ruling, but that clearly hasn’t stopped the hackers from counterattacking Sony’s position.

Sometimes, with a little help/friendly fire from Sony themselves.

However, if the reports are true, Sony has had enough, and they are trying to end this war once and for all by introducing an “unhackable” PlayStation3 to the world of consumption.  Details of the device are still a little foggy, but the “unhackable” aspects would be featured on an updated model of the PS3, which is rumored to be a console that features a 300 GB hard drive.

Of course, this bears the question:  Is any electronic device truly “unhackable?”  If it’s a software-driven device, something the PS3 clearly is, the term “unhackable” is not an applicable adjective.  Perhaps Sony is trying to install some kind of kill switch that nukes the system if hacking attempts are detected.

Considering Sony’s disdain for the PS3 jailbreak community, maybe this “kill switch” actually nukes the hacker, courtesy of an orbiting satellite.  It would be the only way to be sure — at least from Sony’s perspective.

Thoughts on the idea of an “unhackable” PS3?  Is it possible?  Or is this more wishful thinking from a company who wants total control of their console’s market?
