Facebook said it will start extending two new safety features to its mobile site and native apps. These are mobile social reporting and mobile password reset.

The former, Facebook says, “provides a social flow where you can let your friends know about photos and other content you don’t like. It’s an easy way for people to report problems to their friends and others, so they can resolve conflicts over content that’s posted on Facebook.”

Mobile password re-set simply lets you reset your password on your mobile device and regain access your account. It also includes features that let you identify your account and choose which emails to send recovery links to.

“These tools, which are already available for people who use Facebook on the web, will roll out gradually across Facebook for mobile, with the goal being to enable more useful tools and systems in every place people experience Facebook,” a representative for the company tells WebProNews.

“As more people use mobile devices, we want all of our security tools available everywhere you use Facebook,” says engineer Dan Muriello on Facebook’s security blog.

“If you are reporting something you don’t like, we want to make it easy for you to communicate with the person who posted it. For example, if you don’t like a photo of yourself that someone uploaded, you can use social reporting to ask that person to take it down,” Muriello says. “The response to these changes has been great and almost 70% of reported photos get removed by the owner. This is just by facilitating communication between two people without any intervention from Facebook teams.”

Facebook’s mobile experience is often criticized for lacking features of the desktop experience, it’s good to see them continue to add things to mobile, given that this is the main access point for many users.
