The Hollywood power couple of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt truly made their recent secret wedding a family affair by getting their six children to play important roles. The inclusion of the Jolie-Pitt children in wedding preparations seemed perfect, since they were reportedly part of the reason why the long-time partners finally wed on August 23 in France.
Far from being the cliché “bridezilla,” Jolie allowed her kids to have a hand in one important decision: the design of her wedding gown. According to People, the actor-director asked Atelier Versace’s master tailor Luigi Massi to design her white gown. Her children’s artworks were then emblazoned on the bride’s veil and the back of her dress.
“Luigi is like family to me and I couldn’t imagine anyone else making this dress. He knows and cares for the children and it was great fun putting it together,” said Jolie.

Pitt, meanwhile, wore a dark suit from his own closet and borrowed a tie from one of his sons because he had reportedly forgotten his own.
At the ceremony, each child also played a special role. Maddox and Pax both walked their mother down the aisle after flower girls Zahara and Vivienne scattered petals gathered from flowers in the garden of Jolie and Pitt’s chateau Miraval estate in Correns. Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers, while older brother Pax had also baked the wedding cake.
“It was such a special day to share with our children and a very happy time for our family,” the couple said to People.

Jolie also took the time to honor her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, at her wedding. Bertrand had passed away in 2007 due to ovarian cancer. Jolie told People that her husband had engraved a dedication to her mother in the chapel where they held their ceremony and that they both stood on a stone with a tribute etched onto it when they said, “I do.”
Jolie added that she and her brother James Haven honored their mother further by wearing pieces of her jewelry at the wedding.
