Ariana Grande sang the national anthem for a game that saw the Seattle Seahawks play host to the visiting Green Bay Packers.
Upon hearing that the 21-year-old “Problems” singer would be doing the honors, I admit I was concerned about whether or not I would be able to understand our nation’s anthem as sung by Grande.
She is a talented girl, but enunciation is not yet a strong suit for the young talent.
Luckily two things were clear.
Firstly the lyrics (thank goodness) and the fact that the young singer has quite the set of pipes on her.
She gave a beautiful rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” that boasted both modern pop appeal and the ability to hit all the high notes comfortably.
The packed stadium cheered, and perhaps breathed a sigh of relief.

So many other singers, and especially popular recording artists, have a way of butchering the national anthem.
Women singers are forever chasing the flawless rendition given to us by the late Whitney Houston.
Often there are unnecessary runs or notes are held way too long.
And of course there are moments when persons hit bad notes (if they can get close to the right note at all).
Thankfully Grande avoided all the familiar traps that too often leaves sports fans uninspired and looking at their watches.
It’s been a bittersweet week for the young singer.
She had to fight off rumors that nude pictures of her had leaked to the internet as part of an ongoing stolen image scandal.
She declared on Twitter that her own rear end was far cuter than the supposed impostor.
That drama aside, Grande’s new album My Everything topped the Billboard 200 album chart this week.
It is the second time an Ariana Grande album has debuted at number one, and she is able to boast having done so within about a year’s time.

It’s safe to say things are really looking up for the former Nickelodeon starlet.
