Although Bill Murray has said time and time again that he has no interest in being in another Ghostbusters film (especially after the death of Harold Ramis), the idea of someone remaking it with an all-female cast is “fine” with him.
“It sounds great to me,” he told Access Hollywood. “It sounds as good an idea as any other! There are a lot of women that could scare off any kind of vapor!”
Adding more to the Toronto Star, Murray said, “I would go to that movie, and they’d probably have better outfits, too.”
Murray may get his wish. Lately rumors have been flying around about the real possibility of a Ghostbusters reboot. Bridesmaids director Paul Feig has showed great interest and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been rumored candidates for the film, but nothing is set in stone. Ivan Reitman, director and producer of the first two Ghostbusters films, has not made any comment about a remake, although he would be involved in any additional spinoffs.
When asked, Murray gave his two cents about who he thinks would be great choices for a new all-female film.
“Melissa [McCarthy] would be a spectacular Ghostbuster,” he said about his St. Vincent co-star. “And Kristen Wiig is so funny – God, she’s funny!
“I like this girl Linda Cardellini [Mad Men] a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”
When asked at the Toronto International Film Festival what she thought of the idea, McCarthy said, “I think that somebody is really trying to do it, but nobody has talked to me about it. Listen, if the people I think are doing it are doing it, I must never question them.”
McCarthy explained that being picked for the reboot would be “daunting.”
“That’s taking on a legend, a legendary movie. But I would do anything with those ladies, anything at all.”
But leave it to Murray, aka Dr. Peter Venkman, to have the last word.
“I love Robert Palmer’s videos,” he said, “so why wouldn’t I love the female Ghostbusters?”
