CustomMade, a site dedicated to bringing custom craftsmen and discriminating customers together, has just announced the close of a $4 million funding round. The round was dominated by Google Ventures and Schooner Capital. Launch Capital, Nextview Ventures, Andrew McCollum, and First Round Capital also participated in the round.
CustomMade features many businesses located in the Massachusetts and the surrounding area and features products like jewelry, cabinets, and other furniture. They have over 3500 artisans on the site and are hoping to expand their services and secure their place as a premier alternative to brand name products.
Mike Salguero, CEO of Cambridge CustomMade comments on their service:
“If you support your local economy, it’s a great way to help the American economy rebound,”
“If you go into a big box retailer, and take a picture of a coffee table you like, you can find someone in your local area who can make it for you — at much better quality, usually at the same price,”
