Last month at SXSW 2012 Kevin Systrom, co-founder and CEO of Instagram announced that, after a seemingly interminable wait, Android users would finally be getting their hands on Instagram. To the frustration of Android users, however, Systrom was a little shy about dates, saying only that the app was due out “very soon.”
Well, it looks like “very soon” means “today.” Instagram for Android is live in Google Play right now. The app is getting very good reviews, though a few are critical of its design – one reviewer calls it “a shoehorned port of the iOS app.” Check out a few screenshots of Instagram for Android below:
Instagram for iOS launched in 2010 and quickly became one of the most popular photography apps in the iOS App Store. It allows users to take and edit photos quickly and easily, and share them to a variety of social networks including Facebook, Twitter, and even Foursquare. Some, of course, criticize the app for its tendency to make people think they’re better photographers than they are. Most, however, find it a fun way to make their photos a little more interesting, and to share them with their friends.
Like its iOS counterpart, Instagram for Android is available for free. You can find it in Google Play.
