The Mega Millions jackpot has climbed to $33 million, with a cash option of $19 million, after no one matched all six numbers on Tuesday September 1.
While no one managed to win the jackpot, three lucky players won smaller prizes. A $3 million Match 5 ticket was sold in Tuscan, Arizona. That ticket matched all but one of the numbers. The $1 million prize was tripled because the purchaser chose to buy the $1 Megaplier.
Two other Match 5 tickets were sold; one in Florida and the other in New York. Because they did not opt for the Megaplier, each of the other winners won $1 million.
Tuesday’s winning numbers were 1, 8, 54, 69 and 72, with a Mega Ball of 1.
Mega Millions tickets are sold in 43 states plus the District of Columbia and the U. S. Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $1 each, and drawings take place on Tuesday and Friday nights.
The next drawing will take place on September 5, 2014.
