Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the company is abandoning its plan to introduce solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15.
iPhones have always used physical buttons for volume controls, but Apple planned to introduce a solid-state button design in the iPhone 15 Pro. According to Kuo, Apple had to abandon its plans as a result of technical issues:
My latest survey indicates that due to unresolved technical issues before mass production, both high-end iPhone 15 Pro models (Pro & Pro Max) will abandon the closely-watched solid-state button design and revert to the traditional physical button design.
The switch to solid-state buttons would have especially benefited suppliers, increasing both their revenue and profit.
Kuo doesn’t believe the change will impact production or manufacturing schedule, especially since physical buttons are a much simpler design.
