Netflix announced on Sunday that its show House of Cards has already won two Primetime Creative Arts Emmys, “making history” as the first win in a major Primetime Creative Arts category for non-linear programming.

House of Cards won for Oustanding Casting for a Drama Series and Outstanding Cinematography for a Single Camera Series. The awards went to casting directors Laray Mayfield and Julie Schubert and Director of Photography Eigil Bryld.

“We are so proud that both Casting and Cinematography were recognized with these historic Emmy wins for ‘House of Cards’ and Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix. “Laray Mayfield, Julie Schubert & Eigil Bryld’s work was truly exquisite, and the Academy’s acknowledgement for their work is richly deserved.”

Netflix shows are up for a total of fourteen Emmys. House of Cards makes up nine of those nominations, with the others going to Hemlock Grove and Arrested Development.

This all must be very encouraging to Netflix. Sarandos indicated last week that the company is about to double its budget for original programming. Also last week, Netflix debuted its latest original, Derek.

Filming for the second season of House of Cards is currently underway. It will debut next year.
