The Olympics have begun and people from all over the world will be watching. Google is here to celebrate with us and have created a Google Doodle to show their support for the event. Funny enough, the Google Doodle contains a little reference for netizens that would be completely missed by the normal public.

You probably noticed the runner holding up the O in the Google Doodle today:

If you’ve been around the Internet for any amount of time, you probably recognize the runner as this guy:

Google Doodle QWOP Olympics

It makes sense as Qwop is a “small nation’s sole representative at the Olympic games.” He might not be the fastest or the most coordinated, but he has the most heart. Google showed the world that they stand behind Qwop, but is it enough to get the Olympic committee to finally instate QWOP as an official sport.

If you have not had the pleasure of playing QWOP, check it out over at Foddy’s Web site. The game is known for being very challenging, but it’s not that hard once you get the hang of it. Have fun not getting any work done today as you try to bring home the glory with Qwop.
