Pinterest announced a new update to its iOS app to make use of Apple’s new iOS 9 operating system update, which launched on Wednesday. It aims to “help Pinners get to Pins, boards and search results faster than ever before.”
This comes as Pinterest has been talking up its search offering to potential advertisers in an effort to get them to dedicate dollars from their search budgets, rather than their social budgets, to Pinterest ads.
One part of the update lets you search Pinterest from your homescreen. A spokesperson for the company explains, “As you view Pins, Pinners and boards, you’ll be able to search for them later right from your iPhone or iPad’s search screen. If you’re planning a Halloween costume and know you’ve seen good ideas on Pinterest, search “costume” and we’ll show you search results right on your phone.”
Another part of the update is universal links, which let you tap on a Pinterest link anywhere on your iPhone and go straight to the Pinterest app.
Another update is pin preview.
“If you have a new iPhone with 3D Touch, you can press and hold the Pinterest app icon from your iPhone’s home screen to quickly search for Pins, create a board or see what’s popular on Pinterest,” the spokesperson explains. “Once you’re in the app, you can press any Pin to get a bigger preview and quickly Pin, like or send. Press the board name to get a preview of the board it came from.”
You can also hold the app icon on the phone’s main screen to quickly jump to trending pins, Pinterest Search or to create a board.
