Over the years, robots have proven to be proficient in a number of activities. They can run, balance and even play baseball; but can they paint? That’s what one child prodigy set to find out.

Sylvia Todd, a 12-year-old with a passion for robots, has created what she calls the WaterColorBot. It’s a robot that looks a little like a 3D printer. As its name implies, however, it creates works of art with watercolor paint instead of plastic.

So, how does it work? It’s quite simple really. The user connects the robot to their PC via USB and powers up the included RoboPaint software. From there, the machine paints whatever the user creates in the software.

Todd would love to share the WaterColorBot with the world, but she can only do so much by herself. That’s why she’s teamed up with Evil Mad Scientist Labs to help mass produce the painting robot. They even started a Kickstarter to help fund it. Check it out:

Todd and the team at Evil Mad Scientist Labs were looking for $50,000 in funding when they first launched the Kickstarter, but they have already breezed by that goal. They’re currently sitting at $71,414, but you can still get your very own WaterColorBot for $295. There are only 172 left at that price tier, and you’re guaranteed delivery by Christmas.
