Twitter has been experiencing some downtime today. The company acknowledged site issues on its Status Blog, and shortly thereafter posted an update, indicating that the problem was resolved:
Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.
Update: The issue has been resolved and all services are currently operational.
However, the site seems to be having issues again. Between downtimes, we noticed quite a few people were talking about it on Twitter. They were saying things like:
Because Twitter went down I had to find something else to do for 30 minutes. Not as easy as it sounds.
Twitter services went down, but I refused to result to facebook.
I was smashing some Subway cookies while Twitter was down.
I was going to embed some more tweets about what people were saying, but since I can no longer access Twitter, that’s a bit hard to accomplish. Perhaps I’ll update with more in a bit.
I did notice quite a few people indicating how lost they are on the Internet without Twitter. Some didn’t seem to know what to do next. Some just deemed the web boring without Twitter.
An AFP article quoted one user as saying, “Twitter broke, my life has no meaning anymore.”
I don’t know about that, but I’m sure businesses relying on Twitter aren’t very enthusiastic about the situation. We’re not even seeing a Fail Whale to remind us how cute it is when Twitter has outages.
Update: It seems to be back in working order. So, as promised, here’s some more reaction from Twitter:
When twitter went down I shrunk a little as a human.
By twitter being down, I realized that I may have a slight addiction.
As usual, the worst part of twitter going down is all the tweets about twitter going down.
When Twitter was down, I rediscovered personal hygiene. And regained mobility in my legs.
I kept trying to tweet that Twitter was down, but it didn’t go through.
Twitter is down, does homework.
would be interesting to see a graph of Google+ usage during the period while Twitter was down…
Update 2: Looks like it’s down again.
