Will Ferrell has announced that he will be reprising his role as fashion mogul Jacobim Mugatu in the much anticipated sequel to the 2001 film, Zoolander.
Ferrell made the announcement on Thursday in an interview that was published on Joblo.com.
Will told the website that the script is done and his character is definitely included.
“We are actually supposed to do a read-through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it,” he said.
The sequel will follow Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) as they compete against younger male models while opposing companies try to push them out of the business.
Ferrell’s announcement comes just one month after director Justin Theroux revealed that he had been in talks with Ben Stiller about the possibility of a sequel.
“Yeah, we’ve got a script for the sequel, and we’ve just been in talks again,” Theroux told Vulture during a recent interview. “We’re trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running.”
He said that he had met with Stiller on more than one occasion, and plans on meeting with him again sometime this month. “I met with Ben [Stiller] a couple times when I was in New York doing The Leftovers, and then I’m meeting again with him probably in September,” he said.
